History

Back around the year 1000, the Cherokees settled in the Great Smoky Mountains. They based their community off of agriculture, and thrived quite well amongst the mountains. In the 1700's, white settlers began to overtake their place, and completely took over by 1819. They began to build, farm, and sustained a well rounded community that thrived for many, many decades.

The Great Smoky Mountains are an important piece of history. They have seen the very first Cherokee settlers. They have been apart of the American Civil War. They have provided numerous people with a place to live. This is why it was a great relief for many when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established in 1934. Now, it is a national treasure for all to enjoy.
